February 2006

Hi Draggin Jeans.

It was good to be able to meet you at the Ally Pally Bike show in London and to be able to shake your hand in person.

I'd had my jeans for a couple of years, bought them at the bike show actually, and there's nothing better on a sunny day than being able to wear a set of jeans rather than sweating it out all clad in leather.

My experience happened on the way to work riding my Triumph Adventurer along the M4 to between junctions 16 and 15. I was approaching J15, my exit, when the inside lane quickly ground to a halt, they had backed up from the traffic lights down the off ramp and onto the inside lane, The whole line of cars vans and me managed to stop no problem.

However the car behind failed to stop with us, or in fact slow down at all, and hit me from behind at 70mph.

I remember seeing it in my mirrors and thinking she don't look like she's going to stop in time, along with wow can eyes really get that big, and then I was on the road on my side.

A quick check of my hands and arms showed they seemed ok but my left leg had developed another knee below the original. That'll be broken then I thought.

The ambulance turned up and got to work, aint gas and air great, They took off my boots and cut off my jeans, sob, and seeing my injuries and how far along the road I'd come they couldn't believe I had any skin left on my legs let alone that there were no scuff marks at all, the jeans had done a fantastic job and were barely scuffed through the only real hole being where a boot buckle had gone through as it was dragged along the road.

The broken leg was caused by getting it caught under the bike as the car went over it and has taken 7 months for me to get up and about on it again.

It's now an inch shorter and missing two and a half inches of Tibia, thankfully I have a titanium rod that's working well as a bone until mine re-grows around it. But I can't help but wonder how much more uncomfortable my recovery would have been if I'd had to have bits of skin patched back up as well, thanks again all at Draggin jeans.
